MEDICAL ADVICE & ONWARD CARE
Evacuation support
Medical advice when illness or injury raises questions about transfer, evacuation or continuing treatment elsewhere, based on the patient’s condition and needs.
When care may need to continue elsewhere
Contact the clinic if you need advice about transfer or onward care. Explain the patient’s condition, current treatment and the help being requested.
The advice considers where suitable care is available and whether the patient can safely travel.
The medical and practical arrangements
Transfer decisions depend on the care needed, a suitable receiving facility and transport. Insurers or assistance companies may be involved in authorising and arranging the journey.
Ask your assistance company what medical evacuation and repatriation your policy covers, including destinations and authorisation requirements.
Details to have available
Have these details available without delaying urgent treatment:
- The patient’s location and a reliable callback number.
- The treating facility and clinician’s contact details.
- A recent clinical summary and relevant reports.
- The insurer’s assistance number, policy details and case reference.
- Any transfer or receiving-hospital arrangements already discussed.
Insurance questions
Check medical transport and diving cover directly with your insurer; terms can differ from general travel cover. Keep clinical records, invoices and assistance correspondence.
An immediate medical emergency
For an emergency, seek immediate local care. For a suspected serious diving injury, contact local emergency medical services first, then DAN. Do not delay assessment for paperwork or routine clinic messages.
